Five cyclists killed and four injured in hit-and-run crash

On Tuesday, June 7, shortly before 7 p.m., five bicyclists were killed and four others were injured after a pickup truck hit their group outside Kalamazoo, Michigan. The crash happened near a park in Cooper Township.

Prosecutor Jeffrey Getting said the bicyclists were pronounced dead at the scene while the truck driver was identified as a 50-year-old man from western Michigan. He was arrested after fleeing on foot after the accident. The identities of the victims were not immediately available. One of the four injured victims was in critical condition, the second was in fair condition. The status of the other two was not clear. Witness Markus Eberhard told WOOD-TV that someone yelled at him to watch out right before the pickup truck almost ran over his foot before striking the bikers.
